Program description

The Associate of Arts program in professional studies offers you a flexible foundation for both career advancement and continued education. This program combines essential general education courses with personalized professional studies options, allowing you to tailor your studies to personal and professional goals. Each personalized study option equips you with practical, in-demand skills --- whether analyzing data, managing projects, supporting IT systems, building cloud solutions, or applying interdisciplinary problem-solving.

The program empowers you to build confidence, adaptability and a clear path toward academic and career success. You emerge with critical thinking, communication and decision-making skills that prepare you for immediate workforce opportunities or seamless transfer into a bachelor's degree program.

Concurrent program options
Students pursuing concurrent degrees (also known as a “double major”) earn two distinct degrees and receive two diplomas. Working with their academic advisors, students can create their own concurrent degree combination. Some combinations are not possible due to high levels of overlap in curriculum.

Only students who are in the Accelerate ASU Pathways are eligible to be in this program, so most current ASU students are not able to change their major to this program.

It is now possible to earn an ASU degree with ASU Local, an integrated college experience in which students take advantage of in-person success coaching and programming experiences on site while completing one of 130+ undergraduate online degree programs, all of which come with online faculty interaction and tutoring support.

Program term definitions

Accelerated programs allow students the opportunity to expedite the completion of their degree.

Accelerated master's

These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).

Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master's during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program. Interested students can learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply.

Concurrent degrees allow students to pursue their own personal or professional interests, earn two distinct degrees and receive two diplomas. To add a concurrent degree to your existing degree, work with your academic advisor.

Joint programs, or jointly conferred degrees, are offered by more than one college and provide opportunities for students to take advantage of the academic strengths of two academic units. Upon graduation, students are awarded one degree and one diploma conferred by two colleges.
