Students who are already proficient in one of these languages, or another language relevant to the study of Asia, such as Dutch, Tagalog or Urdu, may take a proficiency exam. Credit hours for second language courses will vary depending on the language chosen.

Students choosing one of the specialized Global Asia categories are strongly encouraged to study a language that is highly relevant to that particular country or region. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for a Foreign Language and Area Studies award. Awards include: academic year FLAS Fellowship and summer FLAS Awards.
Consider participating in an Undergraduate Research Experience through the School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies or a research opportunity in the Humanities Lab.
