In the Master of Science program in management of technology, students with a STEM background gain a deep understanding of the impact of technology in enterprise environments.

Through a curriculum that emphasizes innovation strategy, data-driven decision-making and an entrepreneurial mindset, students develop leadership and management skills to complement their technical expertise and compete in future economies. Flexible elective options enable students to pursue interests tailored to their professional and technology leadership goals and to gain new capabilities; by integrating disciplines, they learn to transform industries.

Students choose classes in their areas of interest that mix hard and soft skills in critical areas of interdisciplinary data science; sustainable enterprises; social, entrepreneurial and disruptive innovation; enterprise logistics and operations; or advanced technologies such as smart manufacturing and engineering, artificial intelligence or blockchain technology industries.

The program is a good fit for STEM professionals who wish to progress and broaden their careers in their respective technology industries.

STEM-OPT for international students on F-1 visas

This program may be eligible for an Optional Practical Training extension for up to 24 months. This OPT work authorization period may help international students gain skills and experience in the U.S. Those interested in an OPT extension should review ASU degrees that qualify for the STEM-OPT extension at ASU's International Students and Scholars Center website.

The OPT extension only applies to students on an F-1 visa and does not apply to students completing a degree through ASU Online.

Accelerated program options

This program allows students to obtain both a bachelor's and a master's degree in as little as five years. Accelerated bachelor's plus master's degree programs are designed for high-achieving students who want the opportunity to share undergraduate coursework with graduate coursework to accelerate completion of their master's degree. These programs feature the same high quality curriculum taught by ASU's world-renowned faculty.

Additional Curriculum Information
For their culminating experience, students complete an applied project or a portfolio. The supervised applied project should demonstrate the student's ability to apply research skills in practice. The portfolio highlights three major accomplishments in the program and may include projects, papers, ventures and research. The portfolio includes a resume, written reflection, and self-assessment of graduate program accomplishments, with the supporting assignments and projects included. Portfolio submissions are reviewed by the student's faculty advisor and program chair for consistency in grading.

Admission requirements

General university admission requirements:

All students are required to meet general university admission requirements.
U.S. applicants | International applicants | English proficiency

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.

Applicants must have earned a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, engineering technology, hard science, mathematics, computer science or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.

Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program or a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in an applicable master's degree program.

  3. personal statement
  4. professional resume
  5. proof of English proficiency

Additional Admission Information
An applicant whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency regardless of current residency.

The personal statement should describe the student's background and professional goals, and explain how the program will help them achieve those goals. The statement should also demonstrate good communication skills in English.

Applicants should have one to three years of industry experience in a technology-driven business; experience in entrepreneurship, product development, marketing and intrapreneurship is a plus.

Students have international internship and embedded learning opportunities with a diverse and inclusive group of professionals and colleagues. International students have secured internships within the U.S., based on market conditions in the Phoenix metropolitan area, and in other states during the summer session. On a competitive basis, the program offers embedded learning for select courses with either a technology focus or a social entrepreneurship focus; participating companies include Honeywell, Intel, NXP and United Way. Study abroad opportunities include summer programs in Japan and Ireland through the Global Education Office.

What are accelerated programs?
Accelerated programs allow students the opportunity to expedite the completion of their degree.

Accelerated master's

These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).

What are concurrent programs?
Concurrent degrees allow students to pursue their own personal or professional interests, earn two distinct degrees and receive two diplomas. To add a concurrent degree to your existing degree, work with your academic advisor.
What are joint programs?
Joint programs, or jointly conferred degrees, are offered by more than one college and provide opportunities for students to take advantage of the academic strengths of two academic units. Upon graduation, students are awarded one degree and one diploma conferred by two colleges.
