Love history? Prepare yourself for a career inside or outside the classroom by developing your skills in abstract and critical thinking, writing, oral presentation and reading comprehension. This program provides a solid foundation for whatever your postgraduate dreams entail.
The secondary education concentration within the BA program in history offers a flexible degree for students who are considering a career in education. The concentration program fully prepares students for teaching and certification. At the same time, all the disciplinary knowledge of a traditional history degree provided by the program prepares students for a variety of noneducation careers.
History is a discipline that constantly adopts new techniques of analysis and new ways of gathering and presenting information. Students of history learn to use and create digital media, work on public history projects, conduct oral history interviews, perform qualitative analysis and present their findings in compelling ways to all kinds of audiences.

Program learning outcomes identify what a student will learn or be able to do upon completion of their program. This program has the following program outcomes:
- Students will explore historical evidence in order to understand and compare competing perspectives on events.
- Students will discern and articulate matters of historical cause and effect and construct a well-reasoned argument accounting for the necessary and sufficient causes of historical events.
- Students will analyze continuity and change in global contexts and will understand the reasons for and consequences of dividing history into eras.
- Graduates of the history program, secondary education concentration, will be able to develop lessons, unit plans and assessments for secondary school history courses.
Global Education programs help students gain a global perspective and an increased appreciation for the history, philosophy and religion of different cultures.
The experience and understandings gained across borders can aid students in their future careers. Overcoming challenges through intuition and resourcefulness shows future employers that the graduate can tackle a variety of problems that may come up in the workplace.

3 year programs
These programs allow students to fast-track their studies after admission and earn a bachelor's degree in three years or fewer while participating in the same high-quality educational experience of a 4-year option. Students should talk to their academic advisor to get started.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Acceptance to the graduate program requires a separate application. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master’s during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program.
