Create solutions within the interconnected disciplines of sociology, economics, political science and other modern disciplinary fields. Through this program's integrative approach, you'll gain valuable insights into various aspects of human life, giving you a powerful lens through which to look at our world.
In the Bachelor of Science program in integrative social science, you master the disciplines of the social sciences to meet the complex issues that confront today's society. The social sciences encompass a wide variety of disciplines that focus on societies, institutions, behaviors and interactions. Some of the most important social sciences include economics (inquiry into the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services), political science (inquiry into government, public management systems, public institutions and citizen engagement), and sociology (inquiry into society, social behavior, patterns of social relationships, social interaction and culture). Individually, these disciplines provide valuable insights into various aspects of human life and can help efforts to address societal challenges and problems. However, when the disciplines are brought together in an integrative approach, the model provides an even more powerful lens through which to understand the world.
Examples of the integrative model include:
- sociologists and economists combining models to address issues of homelessness and poverty
- sociologists and political economists collaborating to understand how cultural practices impact economic development
- sociologists, political scientists and economist perspectives coming together to undertake community impact analysis
Benefits of integrative studies include:
- Enhanced collaboration: Integrative studies encourage teamwork and knowledge-sharing.
- Expanded set of problem-solving tools: Instead of the narrow tools of one discipline, you have an expansive set of tools to apply to complex sociological issues.
- Holistic understanding: Combining perspectives provides you with a comprehensive view of complex issues.
- Innovative solutions: Integrative approaches foster creativity and innovation.

Program term definitions
Accelerated programs allow students the opportunity to expedite the completion of their degree.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master's during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program. Interested students can learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply.
Concurrent degrees allow students to pursue their own personal or professional interests, earn two distinct degrees and receive two diplomas. To add a concurrent degree to your existing degree, work with your academic advisor.
Joint programs, or jointly conferred degrees, are offered by more than one college and provide opportunities for students to take advantage of the academic strengths of two academic units. Upon graduation, students are awarded one degree and one diploma conferred by two colleges.
ASU adds new programs to Degree Search frequently. Come back often and look for the "New Programs" option.
ASU Online offers programs in an entirely online format with multiple enrollment sessions throughout the year. See https://asuonline.asu.edu/ for more information.
